Port Townsend Public Library’s Family Read blasts off this Saturday with an interstellar event in downtown Port Townsend.

Free copies of the 2015 Family Read book are to be available at the Family Read Blastoff, 1-4 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 21 at the Cotton Building, 607 Water St., Port Townsend. This year, the library’s community-wide “book club” book is a young adult novel, “Jupiter Pirates: Hunt for the Hydra” by Jason Fry. It’s a fast-paced story about a family of space pirates.

A mobile planetarium is to be onsite, courtesy of the University of Washington’s astronomy department. Surround yourself with a view of the stars in the planetarium’s inflatable Go-Dome.

Join in piratical swordfighting demonstrations and check out the display of incredible Lego spaceships. Lego builders are also welcome to bring their own Lego spaceships to display on Saturday.

Coming up on Saturday, March 7, “Jupiter Pirates” is the featured book at PT Shorts, our local readers’ theater. On Wednesday, March 11 a treasure/scavenger hunt is held at the PT Library (1-3 p.m.). Author Jason Fry speaks and signs books at the library at the “Meet the Author” event, 2-4 p.m., March 18.
