Port Townsend High School Scholarship Foundation announces grant awards

The Port Townsend High School Scholarship Foundation has announced continuing education grants for  six graduates of PTHS.

Kessem Coggins is a junior at Saint Martin’s University who is pursuing a degree in nursing. He credits the example of his grandmother for his commitment to a career in medicine and his desire to help people through difficult times.

Lily Montgomery is studying professional and creative writing at the William O. Douglas Honors College of Central Washington University with hopes to become an editor and educator. She is looking forward to post-graduate work abroad.

River Kessler is a sophomore at Santa Clara University whose studies have an emphasis on business and finance.

Sorina Johnson is a sophomore pursuing a liberal arts education at Middlebury College. Johnson is participating in many music opportunities in the greater New England area.

Brooke Hageman is an education major at Central Washington University and plans to become a special education teacher.

Henry Manza is a sophomore at Western Washington University who is majoring in math with a focus in economics.

The Port Townsend High School Scholarship Foundation is a nonprofit organization grants scholarships to PTHS graduating seniors in the spring of each year and to continuing college students in the fall of each year.

The foundation began building an endowment fund in the 1970s and continues to thrive because of continued donations from PTHS alumni and local citizens. Memorial scholarships can be written to support a student who fits criteria requested by the donor.
