PTHS Knowledge Bowl Team takes 4th

Port Townsend High School’s Knowledge Bowl Team placed fourth at this year’s state competition.

Seniors Helena Stafford, Gannon Short, Seren Dances, Ian Coates, and Henry Veitenhans, anchored by captain Tate Munnich, charged through the preliminary rounds just as they had all of the season, said coach Julianne Dow.

“This year’s team really got to that next level,” Dow said. “This is the highest we’ve finished in the last several years. They had the right combination of knowledge, speed and intuition.”

Port Townsend faced a triple-overtime semifinal round before advancing and securing fourth place.

“It was like watching the thrilling end to a high-stakes basketball game,” said Kurt Munnich, father of Tate Munnich. “It was great to see them surmount all that pressure and gel as a team. We were high-fiving each other in the audience after each question they got.”
