First Presbyterian Church of Port Townsend awarded seven Sarah “Dusty” Westall scholarships on July 30.
Presenting the awards were scholarship chair Le Hornbeck and Westall’s daughter, Heather Westall Burke. Burke, a teacher herself, shared how her mother loved teaching all her life.
Those students awarded were Hayes Beathard, a Quilcene graduate who is to attend George Fox University; Ryan Clarke, a Port Townsend graduate attending the University of Portland; Berkley Hill, a Port Townsend graduate who is to attend George Fox University; James Kienle, a Port Townsend High School graduate who is to attend Seattle Pacific University; Deidra Morris, a Chimacum High School graduate attending Brigham Young University in Idaho; Melanie Pieper, a Chimacum gradudate attending George Fox University; and Nicola Pieper, a Chimacum graduate attending George Fox University.
This memorial scholarship was established by First Presbyterian Church of Port Townsend to honor longtime church member and schoolteacher Dusty Westall. She expressed her desire to assist in the educational pursuits of Christian students in East Jefferson County, and through her generous gift to the church, established the endowed scholarship fund, a press release said.
