Womens golf clubs wrap up 2021 season

Posted

The Discovery Bay and Port Townsend womens golf clubs have finished their 2021 season, but played one last effort at both courses last week before calling it quits.

Discovery Bay club captain Dee Sweeney said they played a nine-hole game of Mexican Scramble on Oct. 7.

For Scramble, each person on the team hits her ball and the best ball is chosen from which to play the next shot. However, in Mexican Scramble, the player whose ball is chosen cannot hit the next shot, so there is some strategy to consider.

The low gross winning team was Lynn Pierle, Judith Murdock, Robin LeLievre, and Jane Peoples with a gross score of 35.

The low net winning team was Pat Burns, Katherine Buchanan, and Cindy Breed with a net score of 24.

After golf, the club held their annual meeting and potluck to award the year’s champs.

The Discovery Bay Womens Golf Club awarded their season’s winners as follows:

Most Improved Handicap: Cindy Westwood, 7.2 strokes.
Most Improved Eclectic (tie): Sheila Kilmer and Dee Sweeney, 34 strokes.
Lowest Gross Eclectic: Wanda Synnestvedt, 68.
Low Gross for the Season: Jane Peoples, 78.
Captain’s Cup (Eclectic Two-Day Championship Tournament): Jane Peoples, club champion and low gross winner, 77; and Dee Sweeney, low net winner, 59.
Wanda Synnestvedt won the most birdies (10) birdies and pars (80).

The Port Townsend Womens Golf Club presented the following awards for their 2021 season:

First Low Gross: Starla Audette.

Second Low Gross: Lynn Bidlake.

First Low Net: Ann Meier.

Second Low Net: Tie between Karen Michaud and Robin Lelievre.

Most Improved Eclectic: Linda Deal.

The club also celebrated Betty Gastfield’s hole-in-one on Hole 3.
