The Port Townsend Women’s Golf Club opened its season April 2 at the newly envisioned Port Townsend Golf Park. On a misty morning that ended in sunshine, eight club members played Bingo, Bango, Bongo. Points are earned for being the first player to land her ball on the green, the player whose ball lands closest to the pin and any player who sinks her putt with only one stroke. The greatest number of points was accumulated by Peggy Tonan; a tie for second was made by Robin Best and Barb Aldrich; 4th place was carded by Vicki Young.
Following play, the women held a season-opening meeting in the clubhouse and lunch at the on-site restaurant. Bob Wheeler, president of
the newly formed Friends of the Port Townsend Golf Park, spoke to the members about the exciting new developments taking place at the local municipal course. The community is invited to see and learn for themselves what is taking place at the 58 acre golf park. Visitors may tour the course and the clubhouse, enjoy live music, food and drinks, as well as participate in a variety of activities including disc golf, yard games, driving range use, etc. All ages of golfers and non- golfers are encouraged to attend. Volunteers and members of the Friends of the Port Townsend Golf Park committee will answer questions. Women’s play day is every Tuesday morning. Gather at the clubhouse at 9:30. Discovery
The first week of April also saw the opening of the Discovery Bay Women’s Golf Club season. Nine club members opened their season with a nine hole competition in which each player could use only three clubs of their choice and a putter. The game was close with ties for first place and a tie in the putting contest as well. Tied for first place in the opening nine hole competition were Lynn Pierle and Barb Aldrich and Jane Guiltinan came in third. Putting is often crucial in a game, so low putt performances are always awarded. Tied for low putts (16 out of regulation 18) were Jane Guiltinan and Barb Aldrich. The Discovery Bay women play 18 holes each Thursday at 10 a.m. and welcomes guests. More information at 360-385-0704.
