Three people were hurt after a 19-year-old Indiana man crossed into the oncoming lane of traffic on the Hood Canal Bridge and collided head-on with another vehicle Wednesday evening.
The driver who allegedly caused the crash, Levi S. Eckstein of Sunman, Indiana, was driving under the influence, according to the Washington State Patrol.
Both lanes of the bridge were blocked after the collision, which was reported at 6:20 p.m. Jan. 19.
Eckstein was not injured in the crash. He was arrested for DUI, according to the State Patrol.
Eckstein was traveling east on Highway 104 when his 2009 Chevrolet Express van crossed the centerline while he was halfway across the bridge and hit a Toyota RAV4.
The driver of the Toyota, a 77-year-old Chimacum woman, received minor injuries and was taken by an aid unit to Jefferson Healthcare as a precaution.
Two passengers in the Toyota also received minor injuries and were taken to Jefferson Healthcare; a 63-year-old Port Hadlock man and a 59-year-old Port Hadlock woman.
Both vehicles were totaled.
The Chevrolet was towed from the scene by Kitsap Towing; the Toyota was removed from the bridge by All City Auto Body & Towing.
