Sid Morrell passed away with his wife Stephanie by his side the evening of November 18, 2022.

He spent special time with his family in the weeks prior to his death and was grateful for the support of his sons, Ed and Bob, and daughter-in-law, Kim at the Medical Center the last several days as he battled heart failure.

Sid was strong, always kind and loving, and clear in his decision to discontinue intervention, expressing gratitude for his good life and many friends. Sid enjoyed exchanging stories of past adventures which began at an early age:  escape to Alaska at age 16, an overland trek through Indonesia in his 20s, survival of a train wreck in New Zealand, drinking ale in Australian pubs, running a dude ranch in New Mexico, diving in Baja and Honduras, running a remote scuba resort in Fiji.

Sid and Stephanie fell in love in 1980 during Seattle Seafair weekend. They moved to Portland, Oregon where Sid was Advertising Director for This Week Magazine. Adventure beckoned with Sid’s dream of sailing to the South Pacific. Sid and Stephanie bought a sailboat together, married on Valentine’s Day 1986 with the theme “Far Horizons” and left the shores in their Ketch Rainshadow for a three year life-changing voyage though Hawaii, Palmyra, Samoa, Tonga, Fiji and Australia.

In 1990 the Morrells settled in Port Townsend, a welcoming homeport for Rainshadow.  Sid started and ran a boat shelter manufacturing company which he later sold, retiring to a busy life of construction projects, sailing, hiking, golfing, continuing travel to France, Spain, Alaska, Hawaii, Mexico, South America.

Things Sid loved: playing cards with his buddies, breakfast with Romeos, guitar camps, driving back roads, rounds of golf at local courses, walks with smart funny friends, a good bowl of soup, dancing in the living room, his neighbors, family holidays. Things Sid didn’t like: big cities, crowded airports, beets, kale, bigotry, deer munching the shrubbery.  One of Sid’s favorite sayings which we heard often: “The years tell what the days don’t know.”  The years tell the story of a beloved man who will be in our hearts forever.

Sid is survived by his wife, Stephanie (Anderson) Morrell; sister, Darlene McNeal; his son, Ed Zarrell; his son, Bob Morrell and daughter-in-law, Diane; his daughter-in-law, Kim Morrell; and cherished grandchildren, Blake, Bailey, McKenna, Megan, Kristin, Siena, and Montana.

Sid is predeceased by his parents, Ralph and Katherine Morrell; sister, Carol Westerlund; and youngest son, Tom Morrell.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the Port Townsend Yacht Club, 2503 Washington St., at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 19, 2023.
