The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO) responded to 375 calls for service between Sept. 14 and Sept. 21. Among those calls were 75 traffic stops, 13 warrant arrests, 5 noise complaints, 4 fraud investigations, 29 services of civil process, 2 marine incidents, 11 false alarm calls, 20 animal-related calls and 6 traffic collisions.

The incidents below represent a portion of incidents to which the JCSO responded.

On Sept. 15, a resident in the Gibbs Lake area called 911 to report a man standing in the caller’s front yard and refusing to leave. While deputies were on the way, the mother of the reporting party went out to confront the subject. The suspicious visitor was seeking the reporting party about a $100 debt. The mother convinced the man to leave before the deputies arrived.

Deputies responded to a possible assault in the Hadlock area on Sept. 15. A man and woman could be heard arguing in the area. The argument was determined to be a loud verbal dispute between a boyfriend and a girlfriend. The girlfriend left the area before the deputies arrived.

On Sept. 15, a deputy driving in an area on the outskirts of Port Townsend observed a suspect who was wanted on a warrant riding as a passenger in a vehicle. The vehicle was stopped, and the man who had a felony warrant issued by the Washington Department of Corrections was taken into custody.

On Sept. 16 a deputy stopped a driver at the intersection of U.S. Highway 101 and Rose Street in Quilcene. The driver was cited for not having a valid driver’s license.

Deputies responded to a call of a vehicle that crashed into a house in the Hadlock area on Sept. 18. When they arrived, they found a red Subaru partially within the house. After the investigation, a female was arrested for domestic violence assault because she drove into the house, and her ex-husband was standing in the doorway at the time of impact, officers learned.

On Sept. 19, deputies responded to assist Washington State Patrol and Port Ludlow Fire Rescue with a head-on collision on State Route 104 near milepost 12. One of the drivers was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, and the other driver was taken to Jefferson Healthcare by ambulance. The semitruck involved in the collision swerved off the road and drove down the embankment. The damage to the semitruck released diesel fuel into a nearby creek.

On Sept. 21, a school bus driver reported that a parked vehicle was blocking Coyle Road near milepost 4. A deputy responded from the Hadlock area to find that a woman who was picking berries in the area had parked her car in what she thought was a safe place.

Deputies responded to a report of a man with a gun in the Discovery Bay area on Sept. 21. The gun-toting man approached a PUD worker at the location and told him if he wasn’t reading meters he needed to leave his property. The man made no threats and turned and walked home. When contacted later, the resident was very cooperative. He reported that he was recently a crime victim and was protecting his property.

Deputies responded to a traffic collision that occurred at 12:30 p.m. on Sept. 21 at the intersection of Irondale Road and Patison Street in Port Hadlock. One of the drivers was arrested for DUI and booked into Jefferson County Jail. The other driver was given a ride home by a deputy so he could get his other car and drive to the hospital to meet with his wife, a passenger who was injured in the collision.

On Sept. 21, a deputy responded to a 911 call in the 400 block of East Moore Street in Port Hadlock. The caller reported that an injured pit bull was in the area. The dog had an injured leg, was bleeding and had trouble walking. The deputy checked the yards in the area, but could not find the dog.

Cat rescued from burning house

Deputies responded to a house fire in the Port Hadlock area to assist East Jefferson Fire Rescue units at 1:28 p.m. on Sept. 19. The house was found to be full of smoke. The only occupant, the resident’s cat, was removed from the house by firefighters.

The cat appeared to be in distress and was transported by a sheriff’s deputy to the vet. At last report, the cat had recovered.

The cause of the fire was improperly stored firewood next to a wood-burning stove, officials said.
