Sharon ‘Shari’ L. McCarthy

Sharon “Shari” L. McCarthy, age 73, of Grove, OK went to be with Jesus on Monday, September 11, 2017 at Freeman Hospital in Joplin, MO after a short illness.

Shari was born on January 29, 1944 to Hugh and Helen (Rosen) Swearingen in Brownwood, TX. Shortly after she was born her family relocated to Port Townsend, WA where she grew up, graduated high school and spent most of her adult life.

On March 27, 1994 she married the love of her life, Mac McCarthy, and the couple spent 23 wonderful years together. When seeing Mac and Shari together, one would assume they were newlyweds. It was obvious that they loved and cherished each other very much and their time together was never enough.

Shari worked as a Special Accounts Property Disposal Officer for the U.S. Government, until retiring in 2005. In 2006 the couple moved to Grand Lake from Port Townsend, WA.

A member of the Bible Baptist Church, Shari cherished her church family. She was also a member of Nat’l Association of Federal Retired Employees and active in the DAV Auxiliary in Grove.

Shari loved playing Cribbage. Mac introduced her to Cribbage and later convinced her to enter a tournament with him, only for her to end up beating him at his own game. Shari also enjoyed cooking and every single thing she made was delicious. She was also an avid gardener and liked spending time on the lake. Shari will be remembered for her dry sense of humor, her ornery smiles and being a loving, encouraging and supportive mother, wife and friend.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Left to carry on Shari’s legacy: husband, Mac of the home, son Chris of Bremerton, WA, one sister and many loved brother-in-laws, sister-in-laws, nieces and nephews. Memorial services were held at 2pm Friday, September 15, at Bible Baptist Church. Past Guy Morrow officiated. Donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, American Cancer Society or 2nd Chance Pet Rescue in Grove, OK. Arrangements entrusted to Nichols Funeral & Cremation Services, Grove, OK.
