Rosalie Ann (Robson) Lindquist, 90, passed away August 10th at her Port Townsend home surrounded by loving family members. Rosalie was born on May 1, 1927 in Pipestone, Minnesota to Rachel Marian (Williams) Robson and her husband George Partridge Robson. Rosalie grew up in Pipestone with her two sisters Elizabeth (Betty) and Janet. After graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree from Carleton College, Rosalie married Elmer (Gus) Geer Lindquist in 1948 and they moved to Port Townsend in 1957.

They made their first home at Fort Worden in the Commanders house (which is now the museum), because Gus was the new superintendent of the Juvenile Diagnostic Center. In the 1970’s they owned and managed the Tides Inn. Rosalie and Gus (deceased 2004) built their home at North Beach in 1961 and lived there for 55 years.

Rosalie and Gus had five children, Rosalie Ann Lindquist of Mukilteo, Harvey Robson Lindquist of Port Townsend, Rachel Louise Sondie of Port Townsend, Daniel Geer Lindquist (deceased 2007) and James Robson Lindquist of Bellingham. Rosalie is also survived by nine grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

Rosalie and Gus were active in the Port Townsend community in so many ways. They enjoyed traveling the world together and were always happy to come back home to Port Townsend. Rosalie’s adventurous spirit took her many places. At age 65 she hiked to the Tibetan 16,900 ft. elevation base camp of Mount Everest and at age 80 she went on a white water rafting expedition down the head waters of India’s Ganges River, laughing through the worst rapids according to her fellow travelers.

Rosalie received a Fellowship from the Institute for Music Centered Therapies and worked closely with Dr. Helen Bonny. She had a lifelong interest in the relationship between music and healing and helped many people along the way. She also studied at the Open Ear Center on Bainbridge Island learning applications of cross-cultural sound and music in health care and education, including effective auditory stimulation methods for enhanced communication, listening and learning skills.

We will miss her nurturing, kind, positive presence but will always carry her with us in our hearts, continuing to guide us to be our best selves.

Donations may be made in Rosalie Lindquist’s name to the Jefferson Healthcare Hospice in Port Townsend to help them continue their compassionate work. A private memorial and celebration of Rosalie’s life will be held in Port Townsend.
