The Port Townsend Redhawk baseball team was able to complete at home against Forks on March 22 after a rainout of their second game against North Kitsap on March 18. The Redhawks fell to Forks 0-12 after the game was called in the fifth inning due to the 10-run mercy rule. “Injuries again were part of the early story to the start the Redhawks season,” said coach Lamont Thornton. “A texas leaguer pop fly lead to a collision between second baseman Josh Davis and right fielder Jake Fenton.” Port Townsend’s first game of the season March 15 had the Redhawks beating Kingston 6-1, but also included injuries. “After last weeks season ending injury to Logan Donahue this was the last thing we needed,” Thornton said of the Forks game. “Both players were immediately put into concussion protocol.” Davis and Fenton were able to return later in the game though, Thornton confirmed. “Forks has some really good young pitching and we are still in the process of becoming varsity baseball ready,” the coach said. “Due to lack of eligible players our lineup and game schedule is really day to day.” Fenton said the Redhawks “really love baseball” but, “We just need more of them.”
