The Port Townsend Police Department received a total of 139 calls between Friday, Aug. 19, and Thursday, Aug. 25. Below are selected reports.

At 10:20 a.m. Friday, Aug. 19, a caller in the 2100 block of Fourth Street said squatters were stealing power from their home.

The unwanted visitors pulled up to the caller’s house and plugged an extension cord into a wall outlet.

The RV was parked around
100 feet away on undeveloped city property. Officers arrived and spoke with the caller, who said they’d unplugged the squatters’ extension cord.

The officers approached the RV, but nobody appeared to be inside. An officer left a note on the RV.

At 9:50 p.m. Friday, Aug. 19, in the 1700 block of 10th Street, a resident reported hearing an argument between two people nearby. It sounded like two men. An officer arrived in the area to check on the report.

One of the men told police the disagreement was only verbal and didn’t provide any other information on the other male.

At 11:48 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 20, in the 400 block of West Sims Way, a caller complained of an ongoing issue with loud music in a nearby parking lot.

An officer spoke with the man playing music, who was polite and cooperative. The officer recommended he play his music on the other side of Sims Way so it wouldn’t impact the nearby apartment complex.

After the officer left, police received another tip from a caller who said the man had resumed playing his music right after they’d left the area. The officer returned to check out the scene and no music was heard, and the man was in the process of loading all of his sound equipment back into his car before heading out.

At 12:25 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 20, a caller in the 500 block of Hendricks Street reported two men who appeared to be breaking into a nearby construction site and dumpster diving. The two guys were taking items from the site and loading them into a Ford pickup truck. Officers came to the construction site and contacted the two men.

Both identified themselves as construction workers and added that they were attempting to retrieve a lost tool they accidentally threw away during work. An officer took photos to confirm their identities as workers on the site.

At 4:15 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 20, potential harassment was reported in the 500 block of Hendricks Street. The reporting party complained of being harassed for around a year due to a neighbor saying rude things.

The neighbor had called the person “a hot mess” and other insults, and an officer advised that the reporting party get an anti-harassment order from the Jefferson County Courthouse.
