The Port Townsend Police Department received a total of 131 calls between Friday, March 18 and Thursday, March 24. Below are selected reports.

At 12:20 a.m. Friday, March 18, a possible burglary was reported in the 3000 block of Discovery Road. A caller told police that it appeared that someone possibly entered a vacant residence nearby, and said she saw a flashlight in the house. Officers arrived at the vacant home and there were no signs of forced entry into the residence, however, the front door was wide open. Officers investigated the property to look for potential squatters or burglars, but nobody was in the area. Police believe the door may have been opened by heavy winds or some other factor.

At 9:09 a.m. Friday, March 18, officers in the 600 block of Cliff Street were alerted to a report of a man breaking windows at a nearby dental office. Officers contacted the man nearby to the office, confirmed his identity, and investigated the damage to the dental office. The man caused around $1,500 in damages and was arrested and taken to jail.

At 10:19 p.m. Friday, March 18,
a caller in the 400 block of Taylor Street reported to police that a man had knocked on their door asking for help and they wanted police to check on him. Officers arrived and approached the man. It turned out the subject was actually a female who just wanted a place to sleep for the night. She was transmitted to the nearby hospital to be evaluated for any injuries.

At 1:58 p.m. Saturday, March 19, in the 400 block of West Sims Way, a business owner contacted police about a shoplifting incident. An officer arrived on the scene and video surveillance of the shoplifters was handed over. It appeared that there was a man and woman who got away with a basket of stolen goods. Police are still searching for the pair.

At 2:34 p.m. Saturday, March 19,
a caller in the 600 block of Water Street reported seeing a man walking in and out of the roadway and screaming. Officers contacted the man, who was having a conversation with himself. He refused assistance from law enforcement. The man hadn’t committed any crimes so officers left the scene and the man walked away.

At 3:30 p.m. Saturday, March 19,
a woman in Port Ludlow told police that she was being held hostage, then hung up. Dispatchers were unable to get the woman to answer any calls, and police responded with the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office to investigate. Law enforcement agencies learned that the woman is 104 years old and is believed to have dementia. Nobody was held hostage and deputies went back into service.
