The Port Townsend Police Department received a total of 316 calls between Friday, Oct. 8, and Thursday, Oct. 22. Below are selected reports.

At 3:30 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 12, officers responded to an activated burglar alarm at the 2100 block of Sims Way. All doors and windows were checked but nothing was amiss. Active video display screens may have triggered the alarms.

At 7:40 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 12, a caller from the 800 block of East Park Avenue reported finding a camouflage backpack containing drugs. The caller brought the backpack to the police station, where all medications in the bag were prescribed to a man known to law enforcement.

At 10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 13,  a caller from the 200 block of Polk Street said there were ongoing issues with a dog running loose every morning. The caller thought the animal belongs to a cook at the Whiskey Mill and is a pit bull mix who appears to be nice but cries all day. Officers found a dog in a car with no signs of abuse.

At 10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 13, a man reported that two or three days ago he’d been threatened in the 200 block of Sims Way. Another man said he was going to beat him up, and threatened to smash his car windows and “kick his ass.”

When the license plate number was searched, the vehicle was listed as registered to a 92-year-old man. The caller said he couldn’t see any part of the would-be attacker except for white hair.

At 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 13, a man from the 700 block of 18th Street reported that while he was showering, some money went missing. The man said he didn’t remember what or where it was. He said he couldn’t remember anything, and that he had dementia.

At 12:40 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 13, a report was filed for two handguns that had been stolen out of a pickup truck on the night of Friday, Oct. 8.

At 7:35 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 14, a burglary was reported in the 600 block of Water Street. Someone had broken into a business and smashed out the window of the front door. Items seemed disturbed but it was unknown at the time what was taken. A gold Buddha figurine was on the ground at the front of the building.

Officers searched the building, but no one was found. The motion detectors were too far from the door to activate the alarm, which the officers set off during their search. There were no surveillance cameras used. Officers advised the owner on ways to protect her business in the future.

At 12:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 14, an elderly woman called in the 800 block of Water Street to say that she couldn’t locate her car. The police chief drove the woman around until her car was located.

At 11:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 15, two teenagers having a sleepover in the living room of the reporting party’s house in the 600 block of Hancock Street said that someone had opened the front door. They ran into the bedroom, frantic. They did not have a description of the potential intruder. The caller said no one else should have a key to the apartment. Police canvassed the neighborhood, but found nothing amiss. The caller said they would get their locks re-keyed.

At 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 15, a caller stated that someone had punctured the tire of his Honda Fit sometime between 6 and 7 a.m. The tire appeared to have been punctured with a knife. The vehicle was located in the parking area in the 200 block of Adams Street.

At 1 a.m. Monday, Oct. 18, a caller from the 600 block of Hancock Street reported that their 5-year-old child had entered their room, saying that somebody was trying to enter the house. No one was located in or on the premises.

At 9 a.m. Monday, Oct. 18,  the manager of an apartment complex in the 600 block of Hancock Street requested patrols due to a number of attempted break-ins.

At 8 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 19, a caller reported teens crawling up inside of a building at the corner of Cass and Walker streets. This had happened the day previous, as well. Students were entering the northwest corner of the building via a ladder, and coming onto the property through a number of breaks in the fencing. No kids were present when officers arrived, but it was determined that they had been smoking marijuana in the building.

At 3 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 19, a caller reported that a bike rack attached to their car’s hitch worth $762 had been taken from their vehicle. As the caller was reporting the incident, they were approached by someone who said they had seen a hitch mounted bike rack off of Discovery Road, and people were out of their car looking at it. When the caller arrived, the rack was gone. It had apparently come loose in the middle of an intersection and fallen off.

At 6:40 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 20, a caller from the 1400 block of Sims Way said they’d heard glass breaking, and a person singing. The caller said the person appeared to have something like a bat. Officers detained the person of interest at a traffic roundabout, where they were found with part of a golf club. The head of the club and broken glass were found at the scene. The smasher was booked on malicious mischief.

At 9:50 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 21,  a woman from the 1000 block of Lawrence Street said her boyfriend had just thrown her out of her apartment after striking her multiple times. She was calling from a parking lot because she was afraid to go collect her things as she thought he was still home. Officers determined that the man was not in the apartment and was texting the woman that he would not come back. The woman was given domestic violence resources, and charges were filed with the court.
