An 18-year-old Port Angeles woman was injured when she reportedly fell asleep at the wheel and crashed her vehicle on U.S. Highway 101 in Jefferson County, early Sunday morning.
The accident happened at 5:40 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 20. According to the Washington State Patrol, Karalynn Sherae Charles, 18, of Port Angeles was driving a black 2000 Volkswagen Jetta northbound on U.S. Highway 101 near Uncas Road, three miles southwest of Discovery Bay.
Charles reportedly fell asleep at the wheel, and the vehicle hit a dirt embankment, rotated and came to rest facing southbound in the northbound lane, according to the state patrol incident report.
Charles was injured, and transported to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, where she was treated and released from the emergency department.
She was wearing a safety restraint.
The accident’s cause and potential charges are under investigation, as of Dec. 20. The vehicle was reportedly totaled, and towed by All City Towing of Port Townsend.
