The Port Townsend Police Department responded to 230 calls between Nov. 20 and Nov. 27, including 8 911 calls, 3 burglary calls, 8 requests for contact with a police officer, 3 quests for help with someone who was suicidal, 10 calls about suspicious activity and 72 traffic stops.

The following does not represent all cases that generated a report. Some reports are missing from this because officers were ill or on vacation and the reports were not available as of Monday, Nov. 28.

Port Townsend Police Chief Michael Evans sat down with a Leader reporter to go over reports that were available, which included:

A man was arrested Nov. 20 after officers pulled him over for speeding, and it was discovered he was wanted on an unrelated warrant. Two passengers who were with him were not arrested. It was noted that there was a gun in the car between the driver seat and the passenger seat. The gun was registered to the driver.

Hearing aids were reported lost or stolen Nov. 21 by a woman who said she thought she had left them at a salon when she got her hair done. Salon employees said they saw her with the aids when she left.

A metallic blue VW hatchback Golf, valued at $22,000, was reported stolen from the 1000 block of Logan Street. The owner said the incident had happened Nov. 21 or earlier and it was possible an extra key had been left in a glove compartment. A license plate frame on the vehicle reads, “Have a grateful day.”

An estimated $2,000 worth of damage was done to a vehicle that was parked on Washington Street on Nov. 21, its owner reported. The incident is being considered a hit-and-run.

Police responded to a bar in uptown Port Townsend at about 9:37 p.m., Nov. 22 after one man, who allegedly was behaving aggressively, threw a chair and another patron started yelling at him. Family members were called, and the man who was behaving aggressively left. Police and staff members of the bar talked to the other man, who was not helping to de-escalate the situation.

A man who had slashed his wrists in front of people at a grocery store at about 4:52 p.m., Nov. 22 was taken to Jefferson Healthcare hospital. The man had used an opened can to try to harm himself, police said. He had been taken to the hospital on Nov. 19 as well.

A woman who police say was driving 41 miles per hour in a 25-mph zone on 19th Street at about 10:40 p.m. on Nov. 23 was cited for speeding and driving with a suspended Alaska license.

A man trying to do a favor for someone Nov. 23 at 1:18 p.m. ended up being cited for disorderly conduct, fourth-degree assault and consuming alcohol in public. The man was apparently attempting to hold a parking space for someone at Safeway by standing in the space when a man driving a van began to pull into the space. The van and the man collided. The man who was trying to hold the space also had an open container of beer, according to police. When the van struck the man, the man threw the open container of beer through the vehicle’s open window, getting beer on the driver and some of the passengers, according to the report. Police arrived to investigate. Suggested charges, which have been forwarded to the prosecutor’s office, of fourth-degree assault for the driver of the van for bumping into the man who was trying to hold the parking spot.

Police responded to a report of a man exposing himself at 3:41 p.m., Nov. 24 on the 2200 block of Sims Way. An officer had admonished the man several hours earlier for urinating in public, but the person who called about it the first time was apparently not offended, so there was no citation. The person who called when the man did it again was offended, Chief Michael Evans said, and so the suspect was arrested. The 37-year-old transient was first taken to Jefferson Healthcare for evaluation and then to Jefferson County Jail in Port Hadlock.

Jefferson Healthcare reported on Nov. 25 that a woman was being disorderly and interfering with a health care worker. The incident occurred at about 7:08 p.m. Hospital staff said the woman was “yelling loudly and belligerently” and was disturbing as well as threatening staff members, who were concerned for their safety. The woman was arrested.

A mini Honda motorcycle, valued at $2,500, was reported stolen Nov. 27 from a garage in the 800 block of 19th Street. The reporting party indicated the back door might not have been locked.
