The Port Townsend Police Department responded to 269 calls for service between June 20 and July 6, including 9 fireworks complaints and 1 commercial fire; they also conducted 24 foot patrols and made 82 traffic stops. Among the incidents reported by the police department were:

A woman backed into a power pole at the Shell gas station on Sims Way at about 10:45 a.m., June 30. The vehicle’s fuel tank ruptured, causing gasoline to leak from the vehicle. The driver, who had borrowed the truck from a friend, told police that in order to get the vehicle into reverse, it was necessary to crawl under the truck and manually shift gears. She was cited for driving without insurance and second-degree negligent driving.

At 11:50 p.m. on June 30, officers responded to an address on Water Street where a man was outside cursing, yelling and intimidating customers. He was told to lower his voice and stop scaring people. He walked away from the area. No crime was committed.

At 1:20 p.m. on June 30, a person reported an iPhone had been taken from a woman while she was at the Safeway grocery store. Police located the phone and spoke to a woman who said she had found it in the restroom at the store and was planning to turn it in to the police department after she ran some errands. The officer took possession of the phone and contacted its owner.

Police responded to a parking lot on Water Street at 1:20 p.m. on June 30 after a woman reported that someone had just hit her car. The driver of the subject vehicle denied hitting the car, even though the reporting party was sitting in her vehicle at the time of the incident and saw the person who hit her. A dent and paint transfer was found on the struck car. The officer located the suspect and found evidence of the collision on her car as well. Both parties agreed to settle the incident through their respective insurance companies.

At 4 p.m. on June 30, officers responded to the Haines Place Park and Ride, where a bus driver had witnessed one man harassing another man on the bus. The two men were sitting across from one another on the bus when one man began making threats to the reporting party. The two men have had a long-running dislike of one another, police were told. The reporting party was instructed to call 911 if the threats continued and not to challenge the potential aggressor. He was also given information about how to get a court order if the threats continued.

A shop owner on Water Street contacted police at 4:30 p.m. on June 30 to report that someone had just shoplifted a wallet and left the store. The female suspect, a minor, was later found with a friend and admitted to taking the wallet. She was arrested and later released to her parents.

At 9:45 p.m. on June 30, a man was arrested for pounding on the glass at a bus stop on Kearney Street. He had an open container of alcohol and had been yelling and swearing. He was taken to Jefferson Healthcare for a medical evaluation and then transported to jail. At 1 a.m. on July 4, an officer responded to a residence on Logan Street where a person reported that her house had been egged. She said she thought it was juveniles because she could hear them giggling when she went outside. She requested that officers patrol the area.

Police responded to an address on Hancock Street where a woman reported she heard knocking on her door at 1:20 a.m. on July 4. She believed the person was someone she had dated in the past, but with whom she no longer had a relationship. A man was located behind the QFC and after first denying he had knocked on the door, admitted he had. He was warned that his behavior could be considered harassment or stalking. He agreed to stay away from the woman.

Police pulled over the driver of a truck at 9:30 a.m. on July 5 after an officer observed items falling out of the truck, which was traveling on Discovery Road. The driver was issued a notice of infraction for not properly strapping down the load and for not having any insurance documents in the vehicle.

At 11:50 a.m. on July 5, a woman reported some fraudulent activity on her debit card after she responded to a phone solicitation to purchase a hearing aid. She had provided the caller with her debit card number.

At 7:50 p.m. on July 6, police arrested a man who was panhandling, making rude gestures and yelling at people near the Food Co-op on Kearney Street. He was taken to Jefferson Healthcare for evaluation and then transported to jail.

Officers responded to reports of fireworks being set off within the city at multiple locations between July 3 and July 5. Subjects contacted were told that use of any fireworks within the city limits is prohibited.
