Today we have to say goodbye to a dear and wonderful friend. She brought more to our lives than we can ever say and for which we will be eternally grateful.
Kathleen Rice passed away Nov. 11, 2016. She was born in Riverside, Calif., and moved to Seattle before she was a year old. At age 29 she relocated to Port Hadlock, and in the Port Townsend, Wash. area where she resided for the remainder of her years.
Her family fondly remembers her for her ready giggle, and for being an animal lover. They were her constant companions, both alive and stuffed toys alike. Several in her family can attest to the great care she took to adorn cards with dried flowers and cutouts of various items. They were always a treat to receive.
Many of us remember her for her friendliness to all, even complete strangers. Many a person met her by way of her stopping to ask about their pet or if they even owned a pet. She'd tell them about her cat Bill, always ending the conversations by telling them to be sure to sing and read to their pets daily just as she did.
She was always offering her artwork, which she worked on daily, freely to all she met. Others will remember her for the wonderful hats she wore.
She loved attending the Gathering Place, especially art class and their dog biscuit program. Still others new her through her involvement in Special Olympics swimming and bowling. Kathleen was a proud member of the Warriors team for many years and proudly wore her many gold, silver and bronze metals all at once, telling all who asked how she earned them.
Kathleen is survived by her two older brothers, Wayne and Ken Rice; many nieces and nephews; a multitude of friends; and last, but not by any means least, her cat Bill.
All who wish may join together for a Celebration of Life potluck which will be held at 4 to 7 p.m., Monday, Dec. 5, at St. Paul's Episcopal Church meeting hall, 1020 Jefferson St., Port Townsend (next to the Bell Tower.)
