Donna Delores Hoglund

Donna Delores Hoglund passed away peacefully in her home on March 13, 2017. Donna was born in Port Townsend on March 2, 1931 to Arthur and Oline “Lena” Beckman, and was the youngest of 12 children. Just months after Donna was born, her mother passed away. She then was raised by Orville and Ida Hathaway. She graduated from Chimacum High School in 1949.
After graduation, Donna married her high school sweetheart and love of her life, Don Hoglund. While Don studied pharmacy at the University of Washington, Donna worked as a secretary at Fort Worden. With the birth of their first child, Donna worked in the home. She was an accomplished cook and took great pride in both her home and her children. A generous person, Donna shared her food with friends often providing meals for those friends who needed a hand. She and Don created a family of five children: Kathy, Cheri, Pat, Don, and Joan. Twin boys were tragically lost shortly after birth.
After Don's untimely death in 1977, Donna took over Don's Pharmacy to insure that her son, Don, had the store ready for him when he graduated from college with a degree in Pharmacy. It was her determination and hard work that kept the business in the family. Donna loved her position at Don's Pharmacy as bookkeeper and front end management. She often said that the drug store saved her following her husband's death.
Donna was a long-time member of the Science, Literature, and Arts Club, The Daughters of Norway, and the Presbyterian Church. An accomplished pianist, Donna had once served as pianist for Eastern Star.
One of Donna's great joys was dancing. She joined the O'Meara Dance Studio and enjoyed tap dancing. She treasured the many friendships she made through her dancing.
Donna was preceded in death by her husband, Don, her parents, Art and Oline Beckman, and by those who raised her, Orville and Ida Hathaway. Also preceding her in death are brothers and sisters: Dale, Lois, Margaret, Weldon (Buck), Harold, Harriet, Neill (Bud), Evelyn and Arlene. She is survived by brother, Harris and sister, Jeanette.
Donna is survived by her children Kathy (Charley) Hough, Cheri (Don) Mitton, Pat Morris, Don (Heidi) Hoglund, and Joan Hoglund. She will be missed by her grandchildren who she treasured: Allison (Nik) Alexander, Jessica (Ben) Rook, Chelsey Hoglund, Erika Hoglund, David Hoglund and Adam Riggle. Her great-grandchildren Owen Rook, Ryan Rook, Silas Alexander, and Riley Alexander will treasure their memories with their great-grandmother and will keep her memory alive.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Presbyterian Church, 1111 Franklin St., Port Townsend on April 15, 2017 at 2 p.m.
