Anna Mae Sherriff

Port Townsend, Wash.

June 2, 1955 – Dec. 28, 2016

Anna Mae Sherriff, 61, of Port Townsend, Wash. went to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2016 in Spokane, Wash. after a very short but valiant battle with pancreatic cancer.

She was born June 2, 1955 the sixth of ten children of Chester L. and Frances E. (Brindley) Sherriff.

Her family had come to gather near after her diagnosis and give her love, she blessed all who came with her sweet spirit and lack of fear. Anna lived in the Chicago and Joliet areas; South Haven, Mich.; and in Port Townsend since 2012.

Anna Mae was a 1975 graduate of Steinmetz High School (in special education) in Chicago, she enjoyed attending the reunions. She seemed to not let go of friends. Anna Mae maintained contacts and friendships for decades, few came and went, keeping in touch was a way of life. She enjoyed talking on the phone with friends and family who were local and around the country.

Her favorite pastimes were walking, cheering the Chicago Cubs, meeting with friends, talking on the phone, playing Candy Crush, watching Wheel of Fortune, and winning at the casinos.

She never passed a person without expressing "have a nice day", or "love you from this end" at the end of a call. She loved caring for children and was the one many in need relied on. She had been attending San Juan Baptist Church in Port Townsend, Wash.

The family would like to thank the Hospice of Spokane nurses and staff, especially Glenna and Daniel who had been providing loving care at the Engen home along with sisters, Donna and Barbara.

Surviving are her siblings, Esther Shorter, David, Dale, Barbara (Jerry Osborne) Hahn, Donna Pfeiffer, Diane Justice, Lois Lewis; sister-in-law, Eva (Irvin) Engen; many nieces and nephews; and Amy, a child born to her and given in adoption in 1974; Amy's children, Malcolm, Samantha, Donald, and Eva.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Donald; sister, Marie Mueller; and nephews, Paul Shorter, and Donald Stahl.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2017 at the James A. O'Connor Funeral Home and officiated by Rev. Elliot Winbush. The funeral home is located at 11603 E. Main St., Huntley, Illinois, (847) 669-5111. Burial will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Arlington Heights, Illinois.
