Almost two dozen women in Jefferson County concerned about the election of Donald Trump are heading to Washington, D.C., for the Women’s March on Washington on Jan. 21, the day after Trump takes the oath as the 45th president of the United States.
A dozen gathered at Pippa’s Real Tea on Friday, Dec. 23 to discuss where they could meet, how they would get there and how they could support others in the community who may want to join them.
“I can provide housing for one,” said Pippa Mills, owner of the tea shop.
Michelle Sandoval, owner/broker of Windermere Real Estate in Port Townsend and Port Townsend City Council member, suggested offering scholarships to young people interested. Both young women and young men should be encouraged, the women said.
Libby Urner Wennstrom suggested that people who can’t go might be willing to donate dollars or miles they’ve accumulated from airlines. There was talk about the logistics of meeting up in D.C. as well as whether to have a name for the group or not. It was suggested the name be Northwest Nasty Women, a reference to Trump calling challenger Hillary Clinton a “nasty woman” during one campaign debate.
“I would love to undo what happened on Nov. 8,” said one of the women, urging the group not to adopt a name that might reflect badly on the group or be considered divisive.
Anyone interested in supporting the group with money or donations of miles can contact Libby Urner Wennstrom at
