Jackie was born at St. John's Hospital in Port Townsend, July 18, 1958, to Fred Pleines Jr. and Beatrice Marcia Vonigas Pleines. She died in Seattle of kidney failure on April 2, 2023 at age 64.

Dad was hoping for another son he would name Jacob after his favorite brother. He said “Well, Jackie is close to Jakie so we’ll call her Jackie.” Marie was only used when she was in trouble or by people who didn’t know her.

She attended Quilcene schools and graduated in 1976 from Quilcene High School. She made her home in Quilcene, Forks, and later on in Clallam Bay.

She was a hard worker, waitressing at Loggers Landing in Quil, cleaning houses, and working for Pleines Logging in the office. She later worked for Concerned Citizens in Forks for many years.

She married Bill (Griz) Melvin, they made their home in Quilcene. They later divorced.

Jackie was preceded in death by her parents, an infant daughter Victoria Marcia and brother-in-law Don Kelly. She is survived by her siblings Fred (Lorraine) Pleines, Jacob (Andrea) Pleines of Quilcene and Adele (Pat Baar) Kelly of Clallam Bay. Nieces and nephews Stephanie, Angela, Annie, Tonya, Jacob and Landon and their families.

Jackie was kind, funny, thoughtful, a hard worker and a good cook. She was loved and will be missed by all that knew her.

There will be a private family burial at the Quilcene Cemetery next to her parents.
