Lee was born in Port Townsend on Nov. 20, 1935, to Lyall and Elva Arey.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Elaine; two daughters, Kim Putich( Bob) and Michelle Parks (Joey); four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and his brother, Bill Arey.

After graduating from Port Townsend in 1954, Lee attended Western Washington College where he received a degree in education.

Lee began his teaching career with Port Townsend schools in 1959 and over the years taught sixth grade, American history and Washington state history. Lee received his Master's of Education in 1981 and continued with Port Townsend schools in administration.

During his career, Lee also coached junior high football and Little League football. Lee retired from Port Townsend Schools in 1991.


Lee was a life-long fisherman and hunter. He also took up wood carving and woodworking. Lee was a member of Kiwanis and worked at Camp Beausite. He was also a member of the Port Townsend Elks Club.

A celebration of Life will be held at the Port Townsend Elks Club at noon April 9, 2022.
