The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office received 279 calls for service between Saturday, July 23 and Friday, July 29. Below are selected reports.

At 10:14 p.m. Tuesday, July 26 in Port Hadlock, a burglary in progress was reported.

The caller said the residents of the home being burglarized were not on the premises because they were locked up on drug charges in Montana.

Two people were seen going in and out of the residence.

Deputies responded but found no signs of a break-in. No one came to the door when they knocked, and nothing suspicious or out of the ordinary was found.

At 10:25 a.m. Wednesday, July 27 in Brinnon, a security officer for Rayonier reported finding stolen property on the company’s timberland near a Mount Jupiter logging road.

About a mile away from US 101, a white Toyota Century was discovered on a spur road and the vehicle number had been scratched out.

The windows of the vehicle were broken and the key ignition was damaged.

The vehicle had been reported stolen earlier. The owner was contacted and offered to come retrieve the Toyota.

At 11:47 a.m. Wednesday, July 27 in Port Townsend, an 11-year-old girl was bitten by a dog at Fort Worden. The dog was described as a shepherd/Rottweiler mix.

The girl had been camping at the fort with family. She had been petting the dog, but when she stopped and got up to walk away, the dog bit her on a finger, leaving a puncture wound.

The dog belonged to the girl’s uncle, and the animal control officer learned the dog had previously bitten children four times when it had not been provoked.

The girl was taken to the emergency room at the hospital after she got a fever.

The dog’s owner was contacted, and he agreed to turn over the dog to animal control so it could be taken to a shelter.

At 4:51 p.m. Thursday, July 28, a hospital employee called to report treating a woman from Irondale who had been bitten by a neighbor’s dog.

The woman needed stitches for the wound, but she left the hospital before a deputy could make contact.
