Officers with the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office (JCSO) responded to 509 calls for service Nov. 28-Dec. 12, 2016. Among the incidents were 6 911 hang-up calls, 22 animal complaints, 3 reports of assault, 7 reports of burglary, 3 death investigations, 2 reports of disorderly conduct, 5 incidents of domestic violence, 1 commercial fire, 1 report of fireworks, 6 harassment investigations, 2 complaints of property damage, 4 property disputes, 4 gunshot complaints, 3 suicidal persons, 15 traffic collisions, 20 reports of theft, 5 trespassing incidents, 85 traffic stops, 10 complaints of unwanted persons, 2 verbal disputes, and 16 welfare checks.

The incidents below are not all encompassing and represent a portion of incidents to which JCSO responded.

Deputies responded at 4:35 a.m., Dec. 3 to a report of a one-vehicle collision near milepost 312 on U.S. Highway 101. Deputies encountered the apparent driver, who initially claimed that another, unknown male had been driving, a man whom he had just met at he grocery story. The apparent driver was eventually arrested by Washington State Patrol troopers for DUI. It was the man’s fourth DUI arrest in two years.

At 5:49 a.m., Dec. 4, a male was seen walking down State Route 20 near Mill Road with blood on his shirt and missing a shoe. Deputies contacted him and learned that the man admitted to having crashed his vehicle on Cape George Road. Deputies located the vehicle and noted that the man’s other shoe was next to the driver’s door. The man, who smelled of intoxicants, refused to submit to a blood alcohol test, and a blood draw was requested. The man was booked into Jefferson County Jail for DUI.

Deputies responded to a report of a woman screaming for help in the Irondale area at 8:43 p.m., Dec. 5. Deputies were initially unable to locate the person and were eventually confronted by a woman who advised them that her boyfriend had held her down on the bed against her will. Deputies located the man hiding in the brush next to his residence. The man was booked into the Jefferson County Jail for fourth-degree domestic violence assault.

At 7:30 a.m., Dec. 5, a member of the East Jefferson Little League reported a burglary of the buildings at the complex next to the sheriff's office. Deputies investigated the incident and believed that the suspect had slept within the building for several days. On Dec. 12, deputies patrolled the area and noted that a door had been manipulated. The deputies located a male suspect within the building, who admitted to having previously committed the burglaries and had taken the property that was stolen from the premises. The man was booked on burglary at the Jefferson County Jail.
