The Washington State Police bomb squad determined an object found on North Beach was harmless.
An initial report came in at 1 p.m. May 1 to the Port Townsend Police Department of a possible unexploded hand grenade found on the beach.
The area was roped off until the WSP bomb squad could reach the area to investigate. Once they arrived, they determined the object to be a piece of rusted metal, which was not a threat to citizens.
Officers encourage people to call authorities right away when suspicious items are found so they can be investigated for public safety.
