Investigators said the death of Victoria K. Brown, whose body was found at the Jefferson County Fairgrounds Tuesday morning, was not the result of homicide.
The 23-year-old woman was found by officers with the Port Townsend Police Department and deputies from the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office. Police were called after a person reported finding a woman face down on the ground outside her trailer at 8:52 a.m. Dec. 29.
The cause of the woman's death remains under investigation by Jefferson County and Port Townsend police detectives.
James Kennedy, who serves as Jefferson County Coroner in addition to his capacity as prosecuting attorney, said a cause of death has not been definitively determined but added that an autopsy had been performed Wednesday by King County medical examiners.
Staff at the King County Medical Examiner's Office noted that the cause of death is undetermined pending the results of toxicology screenings.
Kennedy said test results could be delayed as a result of a longstanding backlog at the Washington State Patrol Crime Lab, but he added that he was working to make arrangements for additional samples to be sent to a private lab.
If successful, results could be returned in under a month. According to staff at the King County Medical Examiner's Office , tests results can take between four to six months to be returned from the WSP lab.
