Longtime Port Townsend resident Evelyn S. Leavitt passed away at her home on May 23, 2022, at the age of 91.  Born May 31, 1930, in Yakima, Washington to Denver and Anna (John) Gaston, the seventh of eight children. In 1942 the family moved to Port Ludlow where she attended school in  Chimacum. While dancing at the Masonic Hall in Hadlock,  she met her future husband LaMoine. They married on April  24, 1948, in Port Townsend, where they raised five children.  She worked five years in the bag production plant at Crown Zellerbach Paper Mill.

As a homemaker Mom cooked wonderful homemade meals and desserts. She made sure there was always extra food for guests whenever they visited. Always a gracious hostess, she loved to entertain through each season of the year. Her family remembers her as an elegant lady, with class and distinction. Always dressed nicely with jewelry to match anything she wore. Mom loved dancing and music from the time she was a young girl. She also enjoyed gardening. She loved her family above all else, enjoying time spent with her grandchildren. She will be dearly missed.

She was preceded in death by her husband LaMoine;  daughter, Kathy Telling; and son, James (Jimmy) Leavitt.

She is survived by her daughters, Judy Harwood (Bill), Nancy Mosher (Whitey); son, William Leavitt (Janet); son-in-law, Charles Telling; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Georgia Wakefield and Bernice Jackson; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A heartfelt thank you to Hospice for the wonderful care Mom received.

A celebration of life will be held for Evelyn and Jimmy at 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 6, 2022, at the Marvin Shields American Legion Post, Port Townsend. Light luncheon provided.  Final resting place is in Greenwood Cemetery, Chimacum.
