The East Jefferson Rivals wrestling program claimed the second-place spot in the Nisqually League after a season of facing the best teams and grapplers in their division.
The Rivals traveled south to face Vashon Island High School Thursday, facing the Pirates in a matchup to decide the Nisqually League winner. Vashon finished on top, defeating the Rivals 45-30.
“Unfortunately the Rivals fell short against Vashon,” said Steve Grimm, head coach of the Rivals wrestling program. “We wrestled great and they fought hard.”
Although the Rivals grapplers were disappointed to finish second in the league, the real gold lies in the postseason where EJ wrestlers will face the best of the best in Washington state, starting Feb. 12 at the regional level.
Grapplers who make it past Regionals will go on to compete at the state level, which is set for Feb. 18 through Feb. 19.
