The East Jefferson Cross Country team hosted the final Nisqually League Meet in the regular season schedule on Tuesday, Oct. 17, at the Port Townsend Golf Course.

East Jefferson hosts Nisqually League Meet

The East Jefferson Cross Country team hosted the final Nisqually League Meet in the regular season schedule on Tuesday, Oct. 17, at the Port Townsend Golf Course.

All Nisqually League schools were in attendance with the exception of Annie Wright. The race was a 5k two-loop course that was grass and trail. Conditions were rainy and the course was wet and slippery.

 The girls raced at 4 p.m. with EJ seniors Aliyah Yearian, Fiona Fraser, and Klahowya junior Natalie Oathout forming the lead pack. They broke away from the remaining 34 girls and finished just over two minutes ahead of fourth place finisher, senior Madeline Yarkin from Vashon (21:19).

Yearian was first in 19:05, Fraser second in 19:10, and Oathout third in 19:16. The next EJ runners were senior Sylvia Butterfield (9th, 22:24), sophomore Leah Ferland (10th, 22:45), and senior Tadu Dollarhide (14th, 23:35).

With a combined score of 33 points, the EJ girls team won the meet over Klahowya by 2 points.

 The boys race was also won by a Rival runner. Junior Soare Johnston ran a 17:01 to take first place over Charles Wright Academy’s senior Dylan Manning (17:24). In the field of 67 runners, senior Henri Huber was the next EJ runner placing 6th in a personal record (PR) time of 17:57. He was followed by senior Indigo Gould (16th, 19:04), freshman Joshua Yearian (17th, 19:05), and sophomore Dustin Hines (20th, 19:14 PR).

Their combined score of 60 placed them second behind Klahowya.

 The next races of the season for the cross country teams include the Westside Classic District Championship on Oct. 28 at Chambers Bay Golf Course.
