On Saturday morning, Dec. 17, 2022, Darlene Joan Strain, loving wife and mother of two children, passed away at Royal Oaks, California, at the age of 86. Darlene was born April 19, 1936, in Port Townsend to Arthur and Olive (Lundstrom) Bishop. She graduated from Chimacum High School as salutatorian.

Darlene was preceded in death by her parents and two nieces, Terri Lynn and Traci Bishop. She is survived by her husband Larry; her children, James of Boerne, Texas and Jennifer (Garcia) of Royal Oaks, Calif.; her brothers Ronald, Gerald and Wayne, all in the Chimacum area; three grandchildren; and numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.

Darlene lived a rich, full and happy life. After graduation she had several jobs in Seattle then moved back to Chimacum to work in the office at the Crown Zellerbach Paper Mill. There she met her soon to be husband. They moved to Omaha, Nebraska, for 10 years and made many lasting friendships. They then moved to Texas for nearly 40 years where she was able to combine her two main interests in life; her religion and her love of travel. She was a Jehovah's Witness and served as a full-time volunteer for nearly 45 years. She was able to combine the two interests into one by traveling to many international conventions all around the world, those conventions and other world travel took her to all 50 states, all seven continents and the majority of the world's countries. Seven years ago they moved to Royal Oaks. Through all of this Chimacum was always "HOME." She will be buried at the cemetery in Chimacum.

A video conference memorial service will be arranged for 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 31, 2022.
