Charles Wright Academy upended the East Jefferson Rivals 3-0 in girls varsity volleyball last week at Port Townsend High.
The Rivals fell 25-11 in the first set, but EJ tested the Tarriers in the next two, 25-17 and 25-22.
“It was a well-fought game and we are very proud of the teams,” said Rivals Coach Emily Zenz.
Akira Anderson finished with three aces and three kills for East Jefferson, while Sophie Patterson added two aces, four blocks and one kill.
Jessica Hawley contributed three blocks for the Rivals, while Alyssa Vandenberg had four blocks and one ace, and Hannah Cotterill added an ace.
The junior varsity team fell to Charles Wright Academy 2-1 last week in the matchup.
The Tarriers triumphed in the first set, 25-20.
The Rivals rebounded in the second set, however, 25-22.
CWA won the crucial third set in a 16-14 nail-biter.
Rivals Coach Kaci Zambor said that her standout player of the game was Rosemary Crecca: “Rosy just got to return to play this week after coming back from an injury and jumped right in and took the leadership role on the court. Last night she played as a setter and was doing all she could to set up great plays for her teammates.”
