The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office received 233 calls for service between Saturday, Jan. 22 and Friday, Jan. 28. Below are selected reports.
At 10:22 a.m. Friday, Jan. 22 in Chimacum, a farm reported an internal theft that happened two days earlier. An employee let another worker use a truck and he took it home.
A dispute over wages followed, and the worker was refusing to return the truck.
The business wanted the incident documented.
At 8:01 p.m. Friday, Jan. 22 in Port Ludlow, a caregiver was worried about a 76-year-old man who had left for a walk. The caregiver thought the man was in danger due to a recent surgery.
A search-and-rescue effort was launched and crews started assembling for a search. A person was able to hear the missing man and found him in a brushy area. He was evaluated by an aid crew and authorities also shared information about Project Lifesaver, which is based on a wristband device that helps locate missing people.
At 9:56 p.m. Friday, Jan. 22 in Port Hadlock, a man who was not welcome on a property was refusing to leave.
The caller was watching the property for the owner and said the unwanted visitor would not go away. The caller said he might physically remove the person from the property if he has to.
The intruder was found sleeping in a van, and was told he had to leave. He eventually did.
Authorities determined the disagreement may have been prompted by a property dispute.
At 4:35 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 23 in Port Ludlow, a man said his daughter was working at the Village Store and a strange man was watching her. The man’s staring made the daughter uncomfortable, and he was not near a vehicle by the gas pumps.
The man and his vehicle were gone when a deputy arrived.
At 3:06 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 23 in Nordland, a resident reported a burglary that may have happened the night before. A rifle, carving tools, and a lawnmower were missing.
The burglar gained entry by forcing open the front door.
There were no immediate suspects.
