How a bullet hole ended up in a side door of the Jefferson County Public Utility District building at its headquarters on Chimacum Road July 3 remains a mystery.

A Jefferson County Sheriff’s deputy responded to a call at 4:49 p.m., July 3 and determined the bullet to be a .22-caliber round that entered through the front door, traveled east through the office, penetrated a dry erase board and lodged in the dry wall, according to sheriff’s Detective Joe Nole.

Nole said it is unknown when the shot was fired. Workers noticed a mark on the door and then realized it was a hole that went through the door and lined up with two other holes in the office. That’s when they reported it.

Jefferson County Public Utility District Manager Jim Parker could not be reached for comment.

There are no suspects, Nole said.
