Becky Jean Evasick died peacefully on February 22, 2024, in Port Townsend, WA, from cancer. She was surrounded by all of her children, her beloved dog Bailey and her sister Jen.
Becky was born on October 26, 1951, at Theda Clark Hospital in Neenah, WI. She was a fun-loving student at Neenah High School, from where she graduated in 1970. She went to the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where she received her Bachelor of Education degree. She married Steve Olson and they lived in a country home in Marshall, WI. They moved to Colorado in the 1980’s and Becky worked as a teacher in the public schools in the Denver area. After a divorce from Steve in 1985, she met Peter Evasick at Fiddle Tunes in Port Townsend, WA, where they married and raised four children: Annie, Sam, Arlo and Ivan. Becky worked in the Chimacum Public School System as a chauffeur for a special needs child for years and later worked as a caregiver until retirement.
Throughout her life, Beck’s best friends were fiddle players and musicians from Port Townsend. She enjoyed playing at dances and special events with these groups: The Vicious Fishes, the Queen Bees, Hell Breakers, The Two Bees or Not To Be, Airstream Traveller, Wild Phil and the Buffalo Gals, Barrel of Monkeys and, most recently, the YackaBeez. The band members included: Peter, George, Tom, Bob, Dave/Slim, Quenn, Allison H., Alison S., Dixie, Carol H., Baila, Scott, Jeannie, Karen, Judith, Terry, Nancy, Mo, Dave, Yuko, Carol S., Phil and Tracy.
Becky loved family. She always put her children first and taught them the joy of giving to others and the importance of having FUN. She was always at the kids’ baseball, football and basketball games. She was their Number One fan and bonded easily with other families who had kids on the teams.
She enjoyed daily walks in city parks and beaches with her best friend, a dog named Bailey. Beck also loved traveling to Wisconsin to spend time with family at the Chain of Lakes in Waupaca and Clear Lake in Tomahawk. Beck had a marvelous trip down the Oregon coast with Bailey and her sister, Jen, in 2022. She loved collecting beach glass and rocks for years along Lake Michigan and Lake Superior with her sister-in-law, Karen, and brother Jim. She would be first in line to play croquet, cribbage, Farkle or any card or dice game. She always wore a Seattle Seahawks cap and watched all of their games and followed the Green Bay Packers, Vikings and Chiefs. All who knew her were uplifted by her playful, positive spirit..
Becky was preceded in death by her parents, Esther and Clifford Burton, her brother, Steve Burton, and her sister-in-law, Peggy Morasch. She is survived by her brothers, Dave and Jim, and their wives, Ute and Karen, her sister, Jenny and her spouse, Mary, and many nieces and nephews and grand nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her best friend, Bailey.
The family would like to thank the oncology and long-term rehab teams at Fred Hutch Cancer Center in Seattle and the Home Health Care Team of Jefferson County (especially Camille). A memorial fiddle jam will be held at a later date at the Grange in Chimacum. And a small family gathering will be held in Waupaca, WI, this summer. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the American Cancer Society or to your local food bank.
