Yet more hypocrisy in America’s gun crisis | Letter to the editor

The hypocrisy of the Secret Service disallowing concealed or open-carry weapons, to secure NRA and Trump’s safety at the convention, while kids are subjected to the unabridged freedom of mass shooters, is truly absurd and hypocritical.

The argument Trump made that “In the absence of a member of law enforcement, there is no one you would rather have nearby when a crisis strikes than an armed, expertly trained member of the NRA.” Certainly we had both of these at other mass shootings that didn’t save the teachers or children.

Depriving every citizen of the right to bear military-style semiautomatic weapons and high capacity magazines would eliminate mass shootings like it did in New Zealand.

The argument that we didn’t ban plans after 911 is equally absurd as we did abridge freedoms and require enhanced drivers licenses, metal detection screening, and TSA checkpoints in exchange for safety.

It’s time to replace those legislatures who block these gun measures.
