We need our fire department, East Jefferson Fire and Rescue, to be the best they possibly can be. Our lives and our property depend on it.
Right now the strongest support we can give them is to vote yes on annexation of the city of Port Townsend into Fire District 1.
A yes vote means everyone in the city and the district will pay the same levy rates, and both areas will get elected fire commissioners to represent them. EJFR will benefit from consistent, predictable funding and streamlined governance. It’s a win for everyone.
We who live in areas furthest from fire stations — Marrowstone Island, Kala Point, Cape George, etc. — are especially conscious of the limited resources of EJFR. We know they are great at doing their jobs. And we know they need to eliminate the inefficiency of two separate service areas and funding mechanisms by voting yes on annexation.
