Who stole Agent 24/7 from the side of Jacob Miller Road May 26?

Goddard College student Tracy Bigelow Grisman said she was tired of picking up litter on Jacob Miller Road, so her first attempt at activism was to dress up in a ball gown and wear a “help wanted” sign around her neck to attract attention.

“I was so deliberate about picking up everything. It was my OCD kicking it. And it was amazing exercise,” Grisman said.

But then she decided something more needed to be done, something more permanent.

“The litter problem in our beautiful place is getting out of hand (litter-ally),” she wrote in an email to The Leader.

That’s when she decided to create Agent 24/7. It took her three days to make him of papier-mâché with paper from the recycling bin. She also used chicken coop wire, wood scraps, balloons, nails, screws, bubble wrap, recycled cardboard, telephone wire and used clothing.

According to Grisman, on Friday morning, May 26, she installed Agent 24/7 on Jacob Miller Road between Discovery Road and State Route 20.

“I checked on him at 4:30 p.m and he was still there. At 6:05 p.m., I went to pick him up and he was gone,” Grisman said.

“The purpose of the litter patrol guard was to help curtail the habit of littering,” she said. “I’m hoping that someone will return him.

“Who would take it? That’s the question. I don’t care who took it, but I’d like it placed back,” she said.

Grisman said she picked up 30 Starbuck cups in one ditch alone.

“Litter really does do bad things to the environment,” she said. “There’s no signs here anymore. They used to regulate these things,” she said of roadside anti-littering signs.

Concerned about the whereabouts of her creation, Grisman put up another sign: “Who stole the Litter Guard? Please return.” And there’s a note that whoever took him can keep the sunglasses.

Grisman also checked with Jefferson County and the City of Port Townsend to see if any road crew had taken down the sign. As of Tuesday morning, she said she had not heard of anyone officially taking down the signs.
