Whidbey-based guitarist to grace Port Townsend stage

Posted

Rocker Nathaniel Talbot is set to play the six strings in Port Townsend, bringing his deft finger-style sound to the other side of the Puget Sound.

With bassist Keegan Harshman and Mickey Grimm on the drums, the trio are set to bring an enticing show to local listeners.

The Nathaniel Talbot Trio will perform at The Palindrome at Eaglemount Cidery at 7:30 p.m. Friday, April 21.

Tickets cost $20 at ticketstorm.com/e/27662/t or $25 at the door. The Palindrome is located at 1893 S. Jacob Miller Road.

Talbot began learning piano at age seven, started a punk rock band at 13, and quickly thereafter, began steeping himself in the guitar-driven sounds of Kelly Joe Phelps, Elliott Smith, Bill Frisell, and other Pacific Northwest heroes.

Since then, Talbot has honed an approach to songwriting and storytelling — all driven by his deft finger-style guitar work, which has earned him a distinct place in the Northwest folk scene.

It’s a challenge for Talbot to not only pursue his music; he runs an organic vegetable farm and seed company on Whidbey Island when he isn’t producing groovy guitar licks.

With a full band and a broader, more experimental sonic palette, Talbot’s newest album “The Fabric and the Weave” never ventures too far from the grounding force of his clear voice, evocative storytelling, and distinctive guitar lines.

The event was put together by Rainshadow Recording and is sponsored by Strait Floors and KPTZ Radio.
