What's the difference between a columnist and a blogger?

So, Leader readers ask, what's the difference between a columnist and a blogger?

And the Leader answers: not much. The primary difference: Columnists are paid contributors; bloggers post for their own personal satisfaction and fame.

Various columns appear in the Port Townsend & Jefferson County Leader's print edition and e-edition: Seasonings (Catherine Kapp's food column), Port Ludlow Beat (Ned Luce on life in Port Ludlow), Press Box (Patrick Sullivan on sports), So Anyway (Erwin Dence's humor and observation piece) and On the Waterfront (Ross Anderson's view of nautical topics).

Some, but not all, of these columns appear on ptleader.com. Our free website contains about 35 percent of the content in our paid newspaper and e-edition.

Our website currently features 12 blogs. These include "Be true to your school" by Joyce Blankenship; "Brett Black's Blog" by, of course, Brett Black; "Theatre Reviews" by Steve Treacy; "Observation Deck" by Patrick J. Sullivan; "Stuff that goes on" by Erwin Dence; "Musings on Jefferson County History" by Marge Samuelson; "Recollections from an 80-year Port Townsend resident" by Tom Camfield; "Computer Tricks and Tips" by Kurt VanderSluis.
