Wanda Lou House passed away peacefully, with family gathered around, Feb. 3, 2015 after an illness.

Wanda was born Sept. 30, 1932 in London, Kentucky to Henry and Ida Pennington. She had five siblings; one brother and four sisters. The family moved to New Mexico and Arizona. Her father was owner of stores at different times in Safford, Arizona, Buckhorn, New Mexico and Lordsburg, New Mexico. Wanda attended school in Cliff, New Mexico and graduated valedictorian of her class. She then moved to Silver City, New Mexico and worked at the Gila theater while attending college, and later went to work as a secretary for a telephone company.

In 1962 she married William W. House. They had a son, David in 1963 and a daughter, Karen in 1965. They moved to Nye County, Nevada in 1964 and in 1966 moved once again to Kern County, California where her husband was a school teacher. Wanda worked there as a housewife, babysitter and preschool assistant. In 1990 they moved to Port Townsend, Washington for their retirement.

Wanda was a beloved wife, mother, friend and a Christian. She is survived by her husband; children; grandchildren James and Tanesha; and sisters Ruth, Jeanne and Darlene. She was preceded in death by her brother, Ray and sister Evelyn.

A graveside service is planned for 2 p.m. Feb. 11 in Laurel Grove Cemetery in Port Townsend.
