“Rhythm of Light” is the theme of a new walk-by textile art exhibit that will be on display in Port Townsend’s Uptown neighborhood through February.
A total of 17 textile artists from the Olympic Peninsula have pieces in the show, which can be viewed at 675 Tyler St. in the Surface Design Association-North Peninsula’s “Fiber Habit” window.
The window boasts a new exhibit every two or three months, in a space provided by Port Townsend residents Charley Kanieski and Liz Hoenig.
The exhibit was hung Saturday, Jan. 8.
Organizers of the show said it’s a subset of the recent North Peninsula group’s exhibit at the Pacific Northwest Quilt and Fiber Arts Museum in LaConner. The 24/7 display features art quilts, garments, hangings, collages, and a decorative felted headpiece. Some of the artists were inspired by color, while others were sparked by quotes about light. Several pieces in the show are for sale, according to the association.
Participating artists from Port Townsend are Leslie Dickinson (“Fields In Bloom”);Caryl Bryer Fallert-Gentry (“Zigzags & Circles #2”); Sue Gale (“Picture This!”); Kindy Kemp (“Rhythm In Blues”); Debra E. Olson (“Light In Flight”); Barbara Ramsey (“Luminous Matter”); Cathie Wier (“Look Deeply”); Joyce Wilkerson (“Graffiti Vest”); and Erika Wurm (“Sand Verbena Moth”).
Other artists include Jeri Auty (“Fantasy Forest”) from Port Ludlow; Mary Tyler (“Night Into Day”) from Chimacum; Linda Carlson (“Light As An Analogy”), Kathie Cook (“Summer Skies of Sequim”), and Liisa Fagerlund (“Fort Worden Triptych B”) from Sequim; Barbara Houshmand (“Fractured”) from Port Angeles; Donna Lee Dowdney (“Luminous Strata”) from Bainbridge Island; and Donna Lark (“Boreal Winter Light”) from Redmond.
Members of the chapter meet monthly, COVID protocols permitting, with meetings rotated between Port Townsend, Sequim, and Port Angeles.
