Ann Wright, Col., US Army (ret.) Former US State Department diplomat

I served 29 years in the US Army/Army Reserves, 16 years in the US diplomatic corps. I was one of three US diplomats who resigned in March, 2003 in opposition to the war on Iraq. I felt that without the authorization of the UN Security Council, the US invasion and occupation of an oil-rich, Arab Moslem country would be a disaster. a war of aggression, a war crime.

While I could resign my diplomatic career with no consequences, military personnel who take their stand of conscience against an illegal war requires courage and bravery, for they face certain prison.

My current activities included the Peace in Ukraine summit in Vienna, Global Women for Peace United Against NATO in Brussels, Irish Neutrality in Dublin and the Gaza Flotilla in Liverpool plus short trips to Slovakia, Poland and Ukraine!!!

Next to Washington DC for the July 26-28 National Mobilization to End the Korean War and then to Ground Zero Center for Nonviolence Action near the Kitsap-Bangor Trident nuclear submarine base.
