Vacant fire chief job sparks much interest

Posted

Fire commissioners for East Jefferson Fire Rescue will have a large pool of candidates to choose from when the fire district picks a new permanent chief to lead the department.

North Kitsap Fire & Rescue Chief Dan Smith took over as interim fire chief of the department  after the board approved an interlocal contract with North Kitsap commissioners earlier this month.

The vacancy in the top executive spot for East Jefferson Fire Rescue was prompted by the May resignation of Jim Walkowski.

Interest is growing for the position of fire chief. East Jefferson Fire Rescue said the agency had already received 17 applications for the job through July 22.

The fire department will continue to accept applications through July 30.
