The National Weather Service forecast for snow proved correct, as Western Washington was hit Sunday night into Monday morning with snowfall ranging from 1 inch in Port Townsend to 14 inches in Bonney Lake.
Weather conditions are not expected to warm enough for snow melt until Wednesday, so motorists need to use caution when traveling. The snowy conditions have also caused widespread school closures and delays on Monday, some of which could extend at least into Tuesday.

A chance of snow is in the forecast for lowland Western Washington Sunday night through Wednesday.
East Jefferson County is included in a Winter Weather Advisory issued by the National Weather Service from 4 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 5 until 4 p.m. Monday, Feb. 5.
Snow accumulation of one to three inches is possible in lowland locations. According to the NWS, there is more chance of snow accumulation in the Port Hadlock and Port Townsend areas than in Quilcene and Brinnon.
Rain is expected to start transitioning over to snow late Sunday afternoon into Sunday evening, becoming mostly snow after 10 p.m. and continuing into early Monday afternoon.
Monday’s high temperature in the Port Townsend area is forecast to be near 36 degrees, with a west-northwest wind of 9 to 11 mph creating a wind chill value of 21 to 29.
Tuesday, the chance of snow continues before 4 p.m., with snow accumulation of less than half an inch possible.
Wednesday morning on the Quimper Peninsula, there is a slight chance of snow shows, with accumulation of less than half an inch possible. Rain or rain showers are expected Thursday through Saturday.
