Although there was a dusting of snow overnight, Brinnon, Quilcene, Chimacum and Port Townsend schools are operating on regular schedule Tuesday.

Sequim and Port Angeles schools are running two hours late. Shelton Schools are closed - an example that snowy travel issues remain around Western Washington.

Quilcene High School's girls' basketball playoff game against Puget Sound Adventist Academy, which was rescheduled from Feb. 6 to Feb. 7 due to snow, has been postponed again because PSAA is closed today. Athletic directors are working out a new schedule.

The “worst” of the snowfall in lowland East Jefferson County should be over, according to the National Weather Service.

A chance of snow exists Tuesday morning and again Wednesday morning, with a greater chance for accumulation in the Quilcene area than in Port Townsend, according to the NWS.

Sunday night into Monday morning, about an inch of snow fell at Port Townsend’s higher elevations, three inches accumulated on the waterfront in Quilcene, and up to six inches on Mount Walker.

Tuesday night’s temperatures are expected to dip into the mid-20s, meaning most of the snow probably won’t melt until rain and temps in the 40s are expected on Wednesday and Thursday.

UPDATED 7:14 a.m. Feb. 6

Due to snowfall ranging from one inch in Port Townsend to six inches on Mount Walker, Quilcene School District and Brinnon School District are closed Monday, Feb. 6. Port Townsend and Chimacum are opening two hours late.

Travel conditions vary, and motorists should use caution. There is less snow on the roads in Jefferson County than in other areas of lowland Western Washington. Icy road conditions are expected to persist into Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service, because temperatures are not expected to warm enough to cause snow melt. More snowfall is also possible into Wednesday in many areas.

Jefferson Public Utility District reports no power outages in East Jefferson County, as of 7:15 a.m. Monday. Elsewhere in Western Washington, Puget Sound Energy reports thousands of customers are without power due to weather-related problems.

PUBLIC SCHOOL DETAILS

Brinnon School District is closed, after originally hoping only for a two-hour late start.

Chimacum School District is on a Snow Schedule, two hours late start. No preschool (kindergarten is in session). Buses on snow routes, which means one bus run K-12 both morning and afternoon. No out of district transportation, which means no Skills Center. Also, no driver’s education and no jazz band.

Quilcene School District is closed Feb. 6. The Quilcene High School girls’ basketball team was slated to host Puget Sound Adventist at 7 p.m. Feb. 6 in a loser-out SeaTac League Tournament game. However, no school means no after-school activities, so the game must be rescheduled.

Port Townsend School District is opening two hours late, with regular bus routes. No preschool, no out of district transportation which means no West Sound Tech, and no mid-day transportation.

The Sequim School District and Port Angeles School District are both closed.
