UPDATE 2 p.m.
In anticipation of potential snowy travel conditions Thursday evening, Chimacum High School has postponed the non-league boys' basketeball game vs. North Mason slated Dec. 8 in Chimacum, and the girls' basketeball game scheduled tonight vs. North Mason in Belfair.
The games can hopefully rescheduled at another date.
THURSDAY 8:35 a.m.
Snow is possible in lowland Jefferson County and across the Puget Sound region on Thursday, turning to rain by daybreak Friday, Dec. 9, according to the National Weather Service.
Brinnon and Quilcene could start seeing snow this afternoon, with accumulation of 2 to 4 inches possible. Snowfall in the Chimacum and Port Townsend areas is not expected until late afternoon at the earliest, with overnight accumulation of 1 to 2 inches (less in Port Townsend).
Port Ludlow is also expected to see snow late Thursday, with 2 to 4 inches possible.
The snowfall is moving south to north over Western Washington Thursday night. Motorists are urged to use caution as the cold weather and precipitation mix to make roadways slick.
By Friday morning, conditions may or may not cause school districts to alter plans, depending on how much snow actually falls.
While the Quilcene and Port Ludlow areas are under a Winter Storm Warning for Thursday night, the Brinnon, Chimacum and Port Townsend areas are under a Winter Storm Advisory.
Low temperatures in lowland Jefferson County, which dipped into the mid-20s Tuesday and Wednesday nights, are expected to be in the low 30s through Sunday.
Another chance of snow is forecast Sunday night into Monday, Dec. 12.
