FRIDAY 11 a.m.

The Port Townsend High School's boys' basketball game vs. Blaine scheduled here tonight, Friday, has been canceled; so has the PTHS girls' game at Quilcene. While the PTHS teams are having practice today, the Quilcene basketball teams are unable to practice today because school is closed, and that means no extra-curricular activities.

FRIDAY 7 a.m.

Enough snow fell in south Jefferson County overnight to make road conditions such that schools are closed today, Dec. 9 in Brinnon and Quilcene.

There is less snow in the north end, with a two-hour late start for Port Townsend and Chimacum schools.

Streets are bare and wet in Port Townsend, while the Brinnon area has four inches of snow, according to one report early Friday morning. Temperatures today are warming, with rain expected, according to the National Weather Service.

Public schools in Jefferson County report these snow-related schedules:

Brinnon School District is closed.

Quilcene School District is closed, which also means tonight’s home basketball games are canceled.

Chimacum School District opens two hours late. Buses on snow routes No preschool. No out of district transportation, no bus to West Sound Tech.

Port Townsend opens two hours late. No morning preschool, buses on snow routes, No West Sound Tech; no Skills Center.

While some schools in Kitsap County are closed or opening late, State Route 104 across the Hood Canal Bridge appears to be bare and wet as of 7 a.m. Friday, according to the Washington State Department of Transportation bridge cameras. There are no highway travel alerts posted in Kitsap County.
