UPDATE: Ryan Clarke is state cross-country champ for PTHS

Port Townsend High School senior Ryan Clarke is a state champion.

Clarke finished in 15:37.40 with second place to senior Graham Peet of Northwest in 15:41.55, and third place to Andrew Ayers of King’s in 15:42.56.

This is Clarke’s third trip to the state cross-country meet at Sun Willows Golf Course in Pasco. The two-time defending Olympic League champion, and 2014 West Central 1A District champ, placed fifth at state last year as a junior.

PT’s sophomore Brennan LaBrie was 34th (17:13.26), senior Mark Streett was 88th (18:13.70), senior Sean Dwyer was 90h (18:16.52), sophomore Alejandro Montanez was 98th (18:25.91), sophomore Jack Kingsley was 108th 18:37.10) and sophomore River Yearian was 117th (18:50.58). There were 142 total finishers.

For the PTHS girls, senior Hannah Trailer finished 95th overall (22:25.70) in the field of 138 competitors. Lakeside won the girls’ team title, and junior Alexis Redfield of Zillah won the individual crown in 18:42.80.

Port Townsend High School won the boys’ cross-country 1A district title for the first time since 2009, with senior Ryan Clarke as individual champion.

Senior Hanna Trailer also advances to state with a fifth-place varsity girls’ finish on Nov. 1 at the Westside Classic at the American Lake Veterans Golf Course in Tacoma.

Clarke won the boys’ meet in 16:38 over the 3.1-kilometer course. The winning team score came with points from sophomore Brennan LaBrie (sixth, 17:24), senior Mark Streett (11th, 17:55), sophomore Jack Kingsley (13th, 18:12), senior Sean Dwyer (14th, 18:13) and sophomore Alejandro Montanez (17th, 18:23).

The 1A district title is the fifth in 11 years, the first since 2009.

The state meet is on Nov. 8 at Sun Willows Golf Course in Pasco. This is Clarke’s third trip to state; last year, he placed fifth.

In the varsity girls’ district race, senior Trailer led the Redhawks with a fifth place finish in 21:31. Other PTHS competitors were frosh Ally Bradley (13th, 22:26), sophomore Amelia Grant (15th, 23:09), frosh Meigan Kunz (30th, 25:46) and sophomore Shauna Lynch (37th, 28:51).
